Americana Music Association. Dedicated to building and promoting the Americana
genre and the individuals who participate in our industry.
DC Bluegrass Union. Supports and promotes bluegrass music in the Washington
area. Great lists of venues and free newspaper advertising.
Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann
(CCE) is an international organization formed to promote Irish music, arts and
culture. It has over 400 chapters around the world, including the
O'Neil-Malcolm
branch in Northern Virginia. Joe Leahy maintains
the CCE News--a
list of Washington, D.C., events.
Folklore Society of Greater Washington. Sponsors concerts, dances, special
events and festivals throughout the year, including the annual Washington
Folk Festival at Glen Echo Park.
Institute of Musical Traditions. IMT sponsors a concert series in
Rockville. Shows are usually on Monday nights, but special events
take place on other nights. They also sponsor the annual Tacoma Folk Festival.
International Bluegrass Music Association. The IBMA works for high standards of professionalism, a greater appreciaion of bluegrass music and the success of the worldwide bluegrass community
National Council for the Traditional Arts. NCTA sponsors the Lowell Folk
Festival, the Blue Ridge Music Center in Galax, Virginia, the Bluebird Blues
Festival in Prince Georges Country, Maryland and the National Folk
Festival. The National Folk Festival rotates to a new city every three years, in
an effort to seed new festivals around the country. 2004 is the third and last
year for the festival in Bangor, Maine."
The North American
Folk Music and Dance Alliance. The Folk Alliance consists of artists,
agents, managers, promoters, presenters and others active in the fields of
folk music and dance and related performing arts.
The Steam Powered Preservation Society. The SPPS is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to the preservation of our musical heritage. The mission of the SPPS is to preserve and share archival tapes of significant historical value, and to make them available for educational use.
Washington Area Music Association. An
organization of music industry professionals in the Washington area. Presents the Wammie
awards for significant career achievements by area musicians.
World Folk Music Association.
The Washington, DC based WFMA is a non-profit organization whose mission
is to help folk artists and their fans keep the light of folk music
burning brightly. WFMA pulls together local and national artists
for concerts and other special events that would not otherwise be
availabe to folk fans -- in a way that supports the intimate nature of the folk tradition.
